About

Odyssey celebrates human experience with a unique voice, drawing from fairground arts, mask, Commedia dell’Arte, puppetry, and international dance-theatre. Inspired by myths and legends, our productions shine new light on contemporary life.

We collaborate with artists from diverse movement-based traditions, creating innovative productions that have incorporated Peking Opera, Indian Kathakali, Indonesian Wayang Wong, and Sri Lankan Kolam. Our experimental collaborations, original plays and adaptations of international classics enrich masked theatre.

Odyssey provides Ottawa-based professional and emerging artists opportunities to enhance and showcase their craft. They share their skills with the community, sparking creativity and bringing Odyssey to broader audiences.

Our digital programs, including The Other Path podcast and The World of Masks (a digital mask museum), expand Odyssey’s reach, break down artistic boundaries and remove geographic barriers. They bring new, diverse artists and audiences to our company.

Where We Live and Work

Odyssey creates theatre on the traditional, unceded Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. We are grateful for this opportunity and for the generations of people who have taken care of this land for thousands of years.

We recognize the historical and ongoing oppressions of Indigenous peoples and offer our company as an ally for change and restitution. We partner with Indigenous artists and arts enthusiasts to share practices and resources and to build towards reconciliation.
